Dignity
We believe in treating every individual with respect and honor, recognizing their inherent worth regardless of their past experiences.
What began as a single quilting class in Eldoret has blossomed into a movement of change. In 2015, Mary Ann arrived in Kenya with a vision to help obstetric fistula survivors rebuild their lives.
Armed with quilting supplies and unwavering determination, she partnered with the Fistula Foundation and Gynocare Fistula Center to teach survivors a craft that would become their pathway to independence.
The first quilting workshop opens its doors in Eldoret, Kenya. A small group of fistula survivors learns to create their first stitches, marking the beginning of their journey to economic independence.
KQFE registers as a nonprofit organization in the United States, expanding our ability to reach more women and secure sustainable funding for our programs.
Kenya Quilts For Empowerment CBO is officially established in Kenya, creating a local foundation for our expanding mission.
Responding to the urgent needs in our community, we launch our Girls' Safe Haven program, providing refuge and education for survivors of gender-based violence.
United by our passion for help, we're building the future of our CBO together.
Program manager
Having experienced fistula herself, she deeply appreciates the significance of reintegrating into family and society. Through self-taught expertise in hand embroidery and fabric assembly, Norah imparts these skills to fistula survivors, doubling as a beacon of empowerment for them. Moreover, she serves as a positive example, guiding them towards rebuilding self-assurance and dignity.
